Long-Term Acute Care Facility (LTAC)

A special type of hospital where patients with long-term illnesses can be managed. LTACs have physicians on staff who can manage ventilators, give antibiotics, and manage artificial nutrition. LTACs primarily serve patients who have had a neurologic injury and require life-sustaining treatment for a period of time to see whether their neurologic function returns.RelevanceIn general, there are no surgical services at these facilities.
