Sepsis is a major cause of death in the US: 1 million people suffer from it every year and 300,000-500,000 people die from it. Sepsis is an overwhelming inflammatory reaction in the body to an infection. It is characterized by fever, confusion, and low blood pressure. People aged 65 and over are more at risk of sepsis.
